Alcatel launches two new affordable smartphones - A3 and U5.

The two share same design concept with ergonomic body and slim curved edges with micro pattern back. Although A3 features a metallic frame while the U5 frame is a colored one. Both features a 5 inch Display but A3 has 720p HD resolution and the U5 gets a FWVGA one.

A3 is powered by a Octa-Core Processor with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB Internal Storage. On the other hand, the U5 features only a Quad-Core Processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage.

Both share the same connectivity features with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE forfaster internet connection. Makes use of MicroUSB for direct connection and charging. Fingerprint sensor is found on the A3 for which you can set your fingers to launch a certain app or action.

13MP AF Rear and 5MP FF Front for A3 while U5 gets a 5MP FF Rear and 2MP FF Front Camera Combo.

A3 carries 2460mAh Battery and the U5 is at 2050mAh Battery.

Alcatel just want to offer consumers affordability with A3 being their most affordable "Affordable 5 inch HD Smartphone" and U5 being their "Most Affordable 5 inch 4G Smartphone" Yet Price have not been disclosed.

Moving on, the Alcatel A5 LED features a 5.2 inch HD 720p IPS Display that is powered by Mediatek 6753 Octa-Core Processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB Internal Storage. This internal setup is not entirely new but performance is just good enough for basic to not so heavy applications.

Camera wise it does pack a 13MP AF Rear at f/2.0 with Dual Tone LED Flash. Front is just at 5MP Fixed-Focus. Comes with creative camera modes.

Alcatel A5 LED Cases credits to GSMARENA

Regular wireless connectivity is covered with WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. 4G LTE is supported. There are two variants - single or dual sim.

A5 LED does have other back housing available like for audio and extended power supply.
Carries a 2800mah battery.

No advice yet of its release and price. Will update when the information is available.

MWC 2017 Sony updates their Midrange line with Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra!

Sony updates their Midrange line up with Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra!

Both comes in similar blockish aesthetics with diamond cut-like finish and presents edge to edge display where XA1 sports a 5 inch HD 720p display while XA1 Ultra comes in with massive 6 inch Full HD Display.

Looking inside, Sony partners with Mediatek for processors making use of MediaTek Helio P20 Octa-core Processor with Mali T880 MP2 GPU. Xperia XA1 ultra comes in with a 3GB RAM / 32GB Internal Storage Setup while Xperia XA1 Ultra will have 3GB RAM with storage options of 32GB or 64GB flash storage. MicroSD slot is available for additional storage.

Seems Sony concentrates efforts in providing high resolution cameras for their Midrangers as tey graciously provide 23MP high resolution primary rear camera with a large 1/2.3” Exmor™RS at f/2.0 with Hybrid Auto Focus. They differ for front camera setup as XA1 gets 8MP with 1/4″ Exmor R sensor while XA1 Ultra gets 16MP 1/2.6” Exmor RS™ sensor.

No word on connectivity but pretty sure it does have complete set from WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC as well as ultra fast LTE on the go internet connection. MicroUSB port for XA1 while USB Type-C for XA1 Ultra.

Battery is at 2300mAh battery for XA1 while 2700mAh battery for XA1 Ultra. Does support fast charging with Mediatek own Pump Express+ 2.0.

Xperia XA1 is scheduled to be release on April 26 for a price of $300. While Xperia XA1 Ultra is set for Summer.

MWC 2017 Sony releases Xperia XZ Premium and XZs!

Sony just made the announcement regarding their newest flagship phone - Xperia XZ Premium.

XZ Premium follows the Sony monolith design aesthetics featuring a glass loop surface when turned reveals a mirrored effect on the back protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Still Water and Dust Resistant IP68. Fingerprint is still integrated with power/lock button. Xperia XZ Premium sports entertainment grade visuals with its 5.5 inch 4K HDR TRILUMINOS Display enhancedd with X-Reality Engine.

Surprisingly, Qualcomm lends its newest Snapdragon 835 to power the device paired with Adreno 540 GPU. Memory is at 4GB RAM and 64GB Universal Storage.

What sets XZ Premium apart is the Motion Eye™ camera system developed by Sony for capturing motion that the human eye can’t see. Other than that, it is first smartphone to feature a memory stacked Exmor™RS sensor at 19MP 1/ 2.3” found on point and shoot cameras 5 x faster image scanning and data transfer and so recording in 960 frames per second (Super slow motion) is doable. Predictive Hybrid Auto Focus and Triple image sensing technology keeps things in clear and in focus. 4K Video Recording is supported. Wew Rear camera alone has too many features but front camera 13MP 1/3.06” Exmor RS at 22mm wide angle lens is no push over either.

I am sure it will have complete set of connectivity features - WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE data connection. Actually supports Gigabit Class LTE with Snapdragon X16 LTE modem. (up to 1Gbps) Makes use of USB-Type C for future proof direct connection with USB OTG support.

Carries a 3230mAh Battery with Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Quick Charge 3.0.

Other than Xperia XZ Premium, Sony also announced the Xperia XZs which brings to Motion Eye camera tech to manageable size 5.2 inch smartphone. Sports a Full HD that is housed by same loop design but with the ALKALEIDO™ metal back instead of glass. It is only powered by Snapdragon 820 with Adreno 530 GPU coupled with 4GB RAM and with storage options 32GB / 64GB Dual Sim Model. Features the same camera setup as that of XZ Premium and so for sure you will have the latest camera tech. Although it will not support gigabit LTE but it will have superior connectivity fit for flagship levels. Since it is compact, it carries a 2900mAh Battery also with Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Quick Charge 3.0.

The Sony Xperia XZs said to be out on April 5 for $700. Xperia XZ Premium said to be release this Spring yet pricing has not been disclosed.

MWC 2017 Huawei Announced P10 and P10 Plus

Today Feb 26, 2017, Huawei announced the new P10 and P10 Plus Smartphones!

With a success of P9, Huawei is keen to follow it up with P10 and P10 Plus.

Huawei news flagships follows the previous premium design less of the cut chamfers and more on the curvier pursuit. For display size, P10 sports a 5.1 inch Full HD Display while P10 Plus comes in 5.5 inch 2K QuadHD Display. On the flipside, Huawei has finally put some glass protection with Gorilla Glass 5. P series now features more colors and should appeal to youth and fashionable personalities with Ceramic White, Dazzling Blue, Dazzling White, Prestige Gold, Graphite Black, Mystic Silver, Rose Gold, Greenery.

Inside, both mostly follows Huawei Mate 9 with Huawei's own Kirin 960 with Mali G71 GPU. As for Memory it is now at 4GB RAM and 64GB Internal Storage. Still makes use of hybrid slot though so you need to sacrifice dual-sim feature for additional storage. For P10 Plus, there is a 6GB RAM and 128GB Storage variant. Will wait for what will be release for Philippine Market.

As for camera, both has second generation of Leica SUMMARIT-H lenses lens, P10 will have Leica Dual Camera 2.0 with 12MP RGB color and a 20MP monochrome sensors at f/2.2 aperture while P10 Plus will have Leica Dual Camera 2.0 Pro with the same MP setup but at f/1.8 aperture for bigger opening so more sensitivy and shallow depth of field. For Front facing camera, both has f/1.8 aperture 8MP oh it is by Leica and offers bokeh and beautification. There will a new Leica Portraiture Mode that let you take Portraiture to DSLR-like qualities with use of 3D Facial Detection for detailed facial takes with studio-like lighting. Wew! Talk about camera upgrades. It does'nt endd there as now they come with OIS and Hybrid 4 in 1 Auto Focus (PDAF + CAF + Laser + Depth Auto Focus). This should make it more stable and would mean less blurry shots and steady video recording. Oh 4K Video Recording is finally supported.

Moving on, P10 and P10 Plus comes with complete set of connectivity as well as being first smartphone to be 4.5G with 4×4 Mimo Quad Antenna for superior signal reception. WiFi makees use of 2x2 MIMO tech as well. USB Type-C port 2.0 for more elaborate direct connection.

Runs on latest Android Nougat 7.0 with Huawei EMUI 5.1 with HUAWEI Ultra Memory learning algorithm that anticipates app usage and manages RAM, so services used most often load faster and improves multitasking.

Fingerprint Sensor is now located at the front end and encased with glass. Smart Touch functionality is used to operate and navigate the device.

P10 has 3200mAh Battery and P10 Plus at 3750mAh. Supports Huawei SuperCharge for faster charging.

MWC 2017 LG G6 Gets Unveiled

LG unveils their latest flagship - G6!

Out with plastic and in with glass, LG G6 comes in with glass body with metallic frame for aesthetic advantage and durability. Sports a 5.7 inch QHD+ FullVision display (2,880 x 1,440) with an 18:9 screen "perfect aspect ratio" Univisium and LG claims immersive cinematic viewing experience and a more unique and usable screen. Dolby Vision and HDR 10 is support for more enhanced visuals. Consumers wished for big screen but portable and so LG listened and made the G6 fit a 5.7 inch screen into 5.2 inch smartphone. Comes with minimalist design in Ice Platinum, Astro Black and Mystic White and is IP68 water and Dust Resistant. Oh Gorilla Glass 3 serves protection for front panel while the rear is Gorilla Glass 5.



Powering the device is Snapdragon 821 with 4GB RAM and 32GB Internal Storage. You can expand storage even more via MicroSD. Well hopefully we do get the 64GB model that is said to be available in some Asian Countries.

LG is sticking to their Dual Camera Setup with standard 71-degrees angle and one wide angle 125-degree both at 13MP. Front Camera is at 5MP with 100-degree wide angle lens. Guess you can fit more view as well as people in your photos and videos.

To compliment it entertainment grade qualities, it has been equipped with Quad DACs for high definition sound.

It will have complete set of connectivity from advance WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS as well as LTE. Make of USB-Type C port and don't worry 3.5mm audio jack still here to stay with LG LG G6.


LG G6 runs on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat with an updated UI fitted for 18:9 aspect ration. The new UI introduces a Lanscape Mode giving you two perfect square view to work with your applications. This also applies with Square Cam UI that offers new camera modes.


Battery is at 3300mAh non-removable and supports Quick Charge 3.0.

Arsenal officially takes off starting with their new VR Ready smartphone - VR One.

Does take detail shot though i find its focusing need some tweaking.

Selfie is just ok but I see some graininess. With this, VR One might struggle in low light.

One is the Heavy Duty - Arsenal Power One with 5.5 inch Full HD IPS Display. Powered by 1.5GHz Octa-Core Mediatek MT6750T with 4GB RAM and 64GB Internal Storage. Geeks! Here is our review of Asus Zenfone 3 Laser!

Comes in simple box that slides out and you are welcomed with the metal clad Asus Zenfone 3 Laser. Looking inside the compartment, you will find manuals, warranty, ejector pin, charger, data cable, and headset with replacements buds.

In terms of design, I mostly prefer its metallic construction compared to glass-totting Zenfone 3 as when it falls you only have risk of dents than a broken glass. Frame hugs the 2.5D Curved Contoured glass for its 5.5 Full HD inch Display and space is used properly bezels are home to capacitive keys.

Top part of Zenfone 3 laser lies the 3.5mm audio jack and Microphone while on it bottom lies the MicroUSB port, another microphone, and speaker grills. Volume Rocker and Power button are on the left side while the right side is the compartment for hybrid dual sim / microSD slot. The rear camera is protruding but sensors on the sides are level.


The 5.5 Full HD Display is bright and gives off right color reproduction although need to max out brightness during direct sunlight. It is protected with Gorilla Glass 3 which also assure you it won't break or gets scratch from minor bumps or scrapes.

Powering the device is Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505 GPU accompanied by 32GB Internal storage and 4GB RAM. You might think this is more on the entry level to midrange specs but it does deliver acceptable performance in gaming. We played NBA 2017 in high settings and it was somewhat smooth with less lag compared to its competitors with Kirin and Mediatek processors.

Though it does have the capaticity to run system at optimal levels, the Asus ZenUI is flawed. We have experienced lags even with navigation through the device. Even at 4gb ram, it fails to manage Multitasking between Apps. The ZenUI now has less bloatwares but needs more system optimization. Wished they introduce new features like multiview mode as well as change dpi. ZenUI does offer Mobile and Power Management Tools, Gesture controls and customization. Fingerprint is good and responsive and will sure provide you a personalize security.

Since this is part of Laser line up, we expected it to be camera-centric and indeed Zenfone 3 Laser delivered great outputs whether rear camera and front camera. With an updated tri-focusing system, it locks at an instance at your subject. Colors are accurately measured with its color correction sensor. With its Manual Mode you can do wonders even astrophotography as it has ISO sensitivity 3200 and slow shuttter speed to 32 seconds. Here are samples shots:

Focus Test. Zenfone 3 Laser focusing is great as you can see foreground or background elements are sharp and well focused. Colors are on point with good exposure thanks to color correction sensor.

Whether in daylight or night it captures great detail and has nice dynamic range.

With Manual Mode, get creative and get that vision translated into reality.

Even Selfies are so so good as it does offer Auto Focus for Front Camera.


Asus Zenfone 3 Laser comes with regular set of connectivity - WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS as well as 4G LTE for ultra-fast data internet connection. USB-OTG is also supported so you can transfer data or connect usb peripherals via direct connection. Comes with complete set of Sensors including Gyroscope for AR and  VR. There is a issue with data connection, if your network is weak or slow, you will experience ghost touch and sometimes facebook fails and system reboots. We don't know if this is with our unit. I thinks it is a firmware bug and hopefully Asus will address this. Oh nearly forgot, it is dual sim handset but if you need more storage then you need to sacrifice a sim slot to make room for that microSD slot.

It is also a good entertainment device as it packs good set of speakers delivering load and concise sound that is enhanced with NXT Smart AMP Tech and Asus SonicMaster 3.0.

Battery life is just right for its size as with moderate use you get through the day but with heavy data and games you will be charging twice a day. This lies the problem, it charges slow and it takes four hours to get to full. Wished Asus let it support  fast charging or 2A charging. Guess they needed to sacrifice  something to get price at reasonable budget levels.

What we liked about the Asus Zenfone 3 Laser is its great solid metal built, acceptable performance from dedicated internal hardware and of course its camera that takes amazingly detailed,sharp and rich shots. Our disappoint lies with software and charging. Software because ZenUI bugs that limits and under performs task even with decent hardware. A software update must fix these bugs otherwise it undermines the experience of the user. Charging is another thing where at this age, Asus should support fast charging with their units. Overall, I still would recommend Asus Zenfone 3 Laser for its entertainment and photography-centric qualities.

Alternatives to Asus Zenfone 3 Laser would be its siblings Asus Zenfone 3 Max, Oppo F1S and Huawei GR5 2017.

Nokia 6 Quick Look Price Specs Philippines

Look what we have here... Nokia 6! Lets have a quick look, shall we?

At last... That Android Dream. Nokia on Android. Nokia 6

Lets unbox this baby. We find ourselves with Nokia signature simplistic packaging with a photo of holding hands - typically depicting their Motto "Connecting People." Opening the Box, we see the unit, manuals including ejector pin, and a box filled with the charger, data cable and headset.


Nokia 6 looks grand and looks like it took design ques from older nokia devices with blockish form of that of lumia 830 but more edgier champers. The back comes with black with protruding camera and led flash. Top houses the headphone jack while on the bottom lies the speaker and microUSB port. Right side, you will find the volume rocker and power / lock button. The sim card / micro sd hybrid slot lies on the left. It construction is flawless accented with antenna. We did a drop test (Video Soon Uploading...) and it survive a 5 ft fall. hahaha

Up front lies a 5.5 inch Full HD IPS Display with 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass. Not as bright and with Nokia blue iconography seems like it is on the cold side of things.

Powering the device is Snapdragon 430 with Adreno 505 GPU coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB Internal Storage. You can expand storage via hybrid slot although you need to sacrifice dual sim feature. We ran Antutu Benchmark and it delivered nearly 45K mark. Nokia 6 performed very well with no lags and apps launch quickly and properly.

Nokia 6 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Nokia twist to it. No App drawer here, with round iconography. Settings has been organize with icons and labels but also shows details of particular settings like percentage of battery, amount of memory and storage and the like. I can it find it useful as I can see the settings without going through them one by one. Oh since this is from grey market, sadly no playstore.

It 16MP Rear camera has good dynamic range where you can see details of hightlights and shadows as well as enough sharpness and contrast. Coming from a Lumia user, it is not of pureview or zeiss level but it can deliver good photos. Although as of present time, it has no professional or manual modes. However we tested Manual Compatibility test and it does support so you may install third party apps to unlock its camera potential even more.

As you can see, it takes good photos with on spot colors and has the amount of processing. You could see minute details even those things in the shadows.

This photo of the rag shows the focusing skill of Nokia 6. It focus well and shows clearly the intricacies of the threads.

Front Camera is decent too. Look here, My Selfie. You could see my white strands of hair meaning to say it can capture details even my pimples. Colors are on point and can capture text properly.

Camera UI is basic. It has only three modes Auto, Touch up,and Panorama. There is HDR and you can set it to HDR Auto, On or Off. Oh by the way, before taking photos be sure set your aspect ratio to 4:3 16MP for rear and 4:3 8MP for front as by default it is set at 16:9 at lesser MP so that you could maximize it camera capabilities.

We have tried out its connectivity and we were impress. Comparedd to any Android we tries, it connects fast whether WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS maybe and USB OTG. It can detect fast as well as reject or unmount faster too. Transfers via wireless are wickedly smooth without hiccups. As expected from Nokia - Connecting people. Wireless casting is also supported.

Oh has complete sets of sensors including gyroscope that will enable you to use Virtual Reality (VR) Apps and Augmented Reality Games (AR).

We have not tried battery as we ran out of time to charge and drain it. So until we get to take home the review unit. Just stand by and we will get back at you to finish this review off.
